Fundraising Ideas for 19th Annual Lauren’s Run

Lauren’s Run is less than three weeks away and we are so proud of the hard work our participants have put fourth to raise money for CURE Childhood Cancer. But we still have a lot of work to do to reach our online fundraising goal of  $85,000! Here are a couple tips for you to try out in your fundraising efforts:

1. Create a Fundraising Page on FirstGiving.

2. Share a link for your Fundraising Page on Facebook and/or Twitter.

3. Send an email to your friends, family, and other contacts, including the link to your Fundraising Page. Be sure to include a personal reason why you believe it is important to support CURE.

4. Ask friends, family, and coworkers in-person for small donations to turn in on race day.

5. Use your craft! You and/or your children can sit down one evening and draw greeting cards, make bracelets, design bookmarks, etc. Exchange your works of art with your friends and family for a donation to CURE.

Do you have any other unique fundraising ideas? We would love to hear them. Good luck and we can’t wait to see you all on May 5th!

Purchase a Tribute Sign for Lauren’s Run

The 2013 Lauren’s Run and CURE Annual Picnic is less than one month away! We look forward to this day of family fun each year and are honored to watch our community come together to support our goal to find a cure for childhood cancer. To register for Lauren’s Run on Sunday, May 5th please click here.

We ask that you please consider purchasing a tribute sign in honor of someone whose life has been affected by cancer. These signs cost $25 and will be prominently placed alongside the race route, decorating it with reminders for the reason for our event. This is a magnificent way to pay tribute to a special person in your life, as well as show your support for CURE.

All orders for tribute signs must be placed by April 19th. We need a photograph, the name of the individual you are paying tribute to, as well as a short message to accompany the image. You may keep your printed tribute sign or leave it with CURE to be used in future races. If you are interested in purchasing a tribute sign, please contact Leigh at leigh@curechildhoodcancer.org.

CURE to Give Prizes to Top Lauren’s Run Fundraisers

The 19th Annual Lauren’s Run and CURE Annual Picnic is May 5, 2013. While your registration for the race goes toward funding childhood cancer research and providing patient and family services, CURE also relies heavily on the additional fundraising that many teams do for this event.

Lauren's Run We are extremely grateful for everyone who works to raise additional money as a team, and this year we wanted to provide the top fundraisers with a little thank you for their hard work.

We will be giving prizes to the top fundraisers for Lauren’s Run. These prizes will include items such as climbing passes to Atlanta Rocks, gift certificates to Outback Steakhouse, autographed sports memorabilia, an iPod shuffle and more!

How it works:

1. Those who raise $250 (according to your FirstGiving Fundraising Page) by the following dates will be entered to win a prize. We’ll announce the winner each Monday morning on our Facebook Page and contact the winner via email.

  • 4/21/13
  • 4/28/13
  • 5/3/13

2. The week prior to race day, we will give out a prize each day to the person who raises the highest amount in each of these 24-hour periods. (Amounts will be tallied from your FirstGiving Fundraising Page.)

  • Monday 4/29/13
  • Tuesday 4/30/13
  • Wednesday 5/1/13
  • Thursday 5/2/13
  • Friday 5/3/13

Play Flag Football with Gary Guyton and His NFL Friends

The CURE Childhood Cancer Annual Picnic is a wonderful day of fun for children fighting cancer and their families. The picnic provides a positive, uplifting environment allowing people affected by childhood cancer to share compassion and provide support.

Gary Guyton This year, our amazing supporter and NFL Linebacker, Gary Guyton, has offered to become even more involved in the event! For Gary, watching kids fighting cancer truly touches his heart. That’s why Gary has rallied some of his NFL friends and joined forces with CURE for our May 5th event Lauren’s Run & CURE Annual Picnic.

Lauren’s Run (the annual 5K, 2K, and Tot Trot) begins at 8:00am at Concourse Office Park in Atlanta, GA. Following Lauren’s Run, all race participants are invited to the CURE Annual Picnic. There, your family will enjoy lunch and an abundance of games – including the Gary Guyton Flag Football Game.

If your child would love for an opportunity to play a game of flag football with Gary and some of his NFL friends, then simply look for the flag football registration table at Lauren’s Run check-in to sign up for a time to play.

The football game is free – all you need to do is register for Lauren’s Run. Click here to sign up and support this worthwhile cause.

Check out some of the great commercials we filmed with Gary and 11Alive. It was a fun day on set for all of us – and the kid

How to Register for Lauren’s Run

Registration is now open for the 19th Annual Lauren’s Run on May 5, 2013! To make registration – and fundraising – as simple as possible we ask that you register online via FirstGiving. CURE has been using FirstGiving for almost 5 years; it’s safe, secure, and easy. For those who need extra guidance, here are step-by-step instructions on how to register for Lauren’s Run. Also included in this post are instructions on how to create your personal fundraising page, join an existing team, or start a new team.

Step 2: Click the green “Register” button and select which type of registrant you are. Your choices are Adult ($25), Children 12 and Under ($20) and Phantom Runner ($30.) Select Phantom Runner if you are not able to attend Lauren’s Run, but would like to support the cause. We will mail you a t-shirt after the race is complete. You may pay-for and register multiple people at the same time.

Step 5: The next screen gives you the option to join a team or create a team. You do not have to be on a team and may skip this step; simply click “I don’t want to join a team” at the bottom of the screen. If your friends, family, work, or other organization already formed a team, find them on the list and click “Join.” If you would like to create a new team, look for where it says “Would you like to start a new team?” towards the bottom of the screen. Click the words “Click here” and fill out the information to create a team. Teams are a great way to organize the fundraising efforts of multiple people and allow you to really see the impact you all have made as a group!

Step 6: The next screen gives you the option to set up your individual fundraising page. This is the page in which you will direct all of your friends and family to support your fundraising efforts. This page is optional. If you do not want to fundraise for Lauren’s Run, click “Skip” at the bottom of the page. If you do wish to fundraise, fill out all information on this page. We highly recommend that you use your name for the title of this page, add a photograph, and include a personal message as to why you believe it is important to support CURE. Adding these personal touches will allow for donors to make a stronger connection to you – and CURE! When you’re finished, click “Next.”

Lauren’s Run was a Huge Success!

Thank you for participating in the 18th Lauren’s Run and CURE Childhood Cancer Annual Picnic. Overall, our goal was to raise $125,000. The numbers are in and we’re excited to announce that the 2012 Lauren’s Run raised more than $161,000! That’s 38% more than in 2011!

What a spectacular day it was, with nearly 1500 runners, walkers and volunteers gathering to join forces to wage war against cancer in children. We loved seeing so many teams sporting special team t-shirts and enjoying the beautiful day together while furthering our important cause. Those teams led the way in pushing the event to new heights, both in terms of spirit and fundraising.

We would also like to say thank you to the many volunteers who worked hard to make the day such a success. We heard many families leaving the picnic saying “This was definitely the best Lauren’s Run and picnic ever!”  Because of each of you, our special event gets better every year!

Thank you to Lynn Crow for capturing the day with your photography. Click here to check out all of the photos.

Child Participates in Lauren’s Run to Help Brother with Leukemia

When a child is diagnosed with cancer it impacts the entire family.  During these times it is important for families to support one another as they battle this life altering disease.

That is exactly what the Moore brothers have been doing for one another. In 2009 Jacob Moore was diagnosed with leukemia and his brother Jared immediately stepped into action.

Understanding the importance of pediatric cancer research, Jared has been fundraising to help support CURE Childhood Cancer and is even participating in Lauren’s Run. As a part of Gary Guyton’s Give2Grow Defenders team, Jared is asking that you help him raise money to find a CURE for childhood cancer so no child or family has to endure what his has over the past two and a half years.

You can donate to help Jared raise money in honor of his brother Jacob by clicking here. If you donate more than $15 Jared will even send you an autographed version of this football picture of him and Jacob (you never know, he may be a famous athlete one day).

You can also join Gary Guyton’s team by simply registering for Lauren’s Run, following the instructions to set up your individual fundraising page, and when asked to select a team, pick Gary Guyton’s Give2Grow Defenders.

Phantom Runner Option Allows Contribution Without Racing

If you haven’t already heard, Lauren’s Run is April 29th! However, in these days and ages we understand that your busy schedule may prevent you from actually attending the race. That is why we provide the option for anyone interested to participate as a Phantom Runner.

Lauren’s Run is one of CURE Childhood Cancer‘s biggest events and is held in Atlanta. Geographically speaking we know not everyone who supports CURE will be able to attend, so to ensure that you have a chance to participate we are expanding the race to include our out of town runners.

It’s only $25 to become a Phantom Runner, and you’ll receive a Lauren’s Run t-shirt too with your donation!

The t-shirt and prizes are great but more importantly you will be supporting us in our mission to find a cure for childhood cancer.

To register as a Phantom Runner click here and choose the “Phantom Runner” option after clicking the Register button on the top right hand of the screen.
