Cure Childhood Cancer

Open Arms

Screen Shot 2014-03-06 at 2.20.11 PMEach Thursday evening, CURE Childhood Cancer delivers meals to children fighting cancer and their families at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorder’s inpatient units at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. We provide a night of real food and real support from our volunteers, many of whom have been toughed by childhood cancer.

To keep our Open Arms dinners going, we need your help in one of two ways:

  • Restaurant donors to provide food to serve approximately 60 people
  • Sponsors to cover the cost of meals not donated by restaurants

For your generous donation of food to our Open Arms program, you’ll be recognized on the CURE website and Facebook page.

Please contact Rhetta Ascari at 770-986-0025 ext. 31 or email rhetta@curechildhoodcancer.org with questions or to sponsor a meal.

Open Arms at Lunch is a little more hands-on than our dinners. Companies, groups and families have an opportunity to sponsor lunch at the inpatient units of the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders at Scottish Rite and Egleston hospitals and provide 4-6 volunteers to help serve lunch to children with cancer and their families. A $400.00 donation covers the cost of both lunches.

This is a great opportunity for companies to give back to the community in a substantial way at a small cost.

If you are interested in sponsoring an Open Arms Lunch or would like more information, please contact Karen McCarthy at Karen@urechildhoodcancer.org or 770-986-0035 ext. 26.

CURE Brown Bag Lunch Program

On the first and fourth Tuesday of every month, CURE volunteers deliver lunch bags to the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorder’s inpatient units at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. These lunches are given to the patient’s caregiver who may not have the opportunity to leave their child’s bedside or the money to eat yet another meal in the hospital cafeteria. The little touch of home – and nourishment – goes a long way for parents in the midst of a lengthy hospital stay.

This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for companies, school service clubs, church groups, etc.

How can you help?

Volunteer: Consider holding a food drive to collect the food items needed for the brown bag lunches and then assemble them. CURE will provide the lunch bags. Have your company or group cover the cost of the food for the lunch bags and have employees assemble lunches as a community service project.

Donate: A company, group or individual can also sponsor a Brown Bag Lunch for a donation of $200.00.

Send a Note: Your child’s classroom, club or sports team can make cards of encouragement for the lunch sacks. Remember, these lunch sacks are for the parents and we are not permitted to deliver anything with a religious message.
