A Voting Competition Worth Writing About

The competition has officially begun! Over the past two months Tom Glavine has been rallying for CURE Childhood Cancer in an attempt to raise $15,000 for our cause. Through Club Diamond Nation, the first virtual baseball and softball academy, Tom has been competing against several Major League Baseball players, Olympic softball players and coaches.

As of this morning Tom is in second place and only 500 votes behind! We know that if you took the time to vote for Tom,  we could win this contest and $15,000 to help fund childhood cancer research. Additionally, by voting for Tom you are simultaneously entering for a chance to win a training session with the star.

The best kept secret? You can vote as many times as you would like! In fact, all that we need to take the lead is for 50 people to vote ten times and we can win! Voting ends on July 15th and we ask that you please help us support Tom as he supports finding a CURE.

You can vote for Tom once, twice, or even ten times by clicking here. Thank you for showing your support as we vote Tom right into first place!

You’re Invited to the 11Alive Community Service Awards

Each year, NBC 11Alive hosts the Community Service Awards (CSA) in order to recognize 11 outstanding local volunteers who have made a difference in our community. The proceeds from the annual awards dinner are donated to a local charitable organization. CURE Childhood Cancer is proud to have been selected as this year’s beneficiary.

Tom and Chris Glavine will serve as the dinner chairs on CURE’s behalf. The CSA dinner will take place the evening of May 3, 2012 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Please join us for this very special and inspiring evening and sponsor a Silver Host Table for $6,000, a Host Table for $3,000, or Host Committee-individual ticket for $300. Tables seat 10 guests, with the Silver Host Tables receiving prominent placement in the ballroom. To sponsor a table or purchase individual seats, contact 11Alive’s Amy Holloway at 404.885.7610.

NBC 11Alive Supports CURE!

During the month of September, CURE Childhood Cancer received support from so many organizations and individuals. While we are thankful for every single outreach, we would like to highlight one supporter in particular: NBC 11Alive.

11Alive was gracious enough to invite us into the studio to film multiple PSAs featuring CURE supporters Tom Glavine and 11Alive’s own Jill Becker. Whenever we saw one of these spots running during the month of September, we were reminded of how thankful we are to 11Alive for stretching our minimal ad dollars and donating so much airtime to the cause. Check out a couple of the spots below:

If the PSAs weren’t generous enough, 11Alive reached out and offered to incorporate CURE into their website MomsLikeMe, a site that acts as a network to connect moms in the Atlanta area. MomsLikeMe asked CURE to collect stories from moms whose children have been affected by cancer. Each day during the month of September, MomsLikeMe donated a prominent blog post featuring one of these courageous moms. To check one of last month’s featured mom, click here.

In addition, you may have seen CURE Childhood Cancer featured on NBC 11Alive’s show Atlanta & Company. Atlanta & Company invited us on four separate occasions to help raise awareness for CURE’s Kids Conquer Cancer, promote our Quiet Heroes banquet, and encourage participation in the 2011 Annual Golf Classic. CURE’s inclusion in these segments not only helped significantly with fund raising efforts, but also helped spread the word about everything we are doing to find a cure for this terrible disease.

Thank you again, 11Alive, for your continued support of CURE Childhood Cancer. You have gone above and beyond anything we could have asked for and all of your efforts bring us one step closer to finding a cure!

The Glavine Experience

Tom and Chris Glavine have been long time supporters of CURE Childhood Cancer.

Every year at our Quiet Heroes event the Glavine’s offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience as an auction item for guests to bid on called The Glavine Experience. The experience gives kids one-on-one time with the long-time Atlanta Braves pitcher on a regulation-size infield in the Glavine’s backyard and time to work on batting skills with the pitching machine in their basement.

This experience is truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any baseball fan. Tom Glavine is a former Atlanta Brave and a 10 time all star.

This year a little league baseball team pooled together to win the auction. In addition two friends of the team, Ella Upchurch and Creed Campbell, who are currently in in-treatment were able to attend. Everyone enjoyed their one-on-one time with Tom, and the Glavine’s were happy to be able to provide the experience and support CURE.

CURE Childhood Cancer is grateful for the Glavines support over the years. It is partnerships like this that help us in our quest to find a cure for childhood cancer.

The Glavine Experience.

What would you give to play ball with former Atlanta Braves pitcher Tom Glavine?

One very lucky little league baseball team will have the chance to hold a practice at the Country Club of the South home of future Hall of Fame pitcher, Tom Glavine (the Glavines have a regulation size infield in their backyard!), and receive coaching instruction from Tom.

CURE Childhood Cancer is currently accepting silent bids on this once in a lifetime experience via email to info@curechildhoodcancer.org up until 6:00 pm on September 22, 2010. This is a great opportunity for little league team members to ban together, make a team bid, and support children with cancer at the same time.

The Glavine’s have generously put together “The Glavine Experience” as an opportunity to raise money for the “A Tribute to our Quiet Heroes” luncheon that Tom’s wife, Chris Glavine started and hosts each year. Quiet Heroes benefits CURE Childhood Cancer, and will be held on September 25, 2010

Every Friday until the luncheon, we will publish the high bid on Facebook, Twitter and CURE’s blog.  Guests attending the luncheon will have the opportunity to make final bids on the “Glavine Experience.” The highest bidder, whether present or not, will win this experience.  Bidding is currently at $1,000.
